Tax best practices, digital transformation and innovation in the profession

CPA Practice Advisor will host three free one-hour CPE webcasts for CPAs on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, with sessions beginning at 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. EDT. Each free session is a stand-alone CPE event worth one credit hour, and attendees can participate in one, two, or all three live events. A separate registration is required for each free session.

Multiple people attending from the same desktop/computer can all earn CPE credits for attending CPE sessions. The events will be moderated by Editor-in-Chief Gail Perry, CPA, and will cover a variety of issues facing professionals and businesses.

Session 1: Good practices of the high season: 11 a.m. EDT, June 14

In the first session, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Mark McAndrew and CPA Erin Leicke will discuss what innovative companies have done over the past fiscal season to overcome staffing challenges and deliver more to their customers. . Mark and Erin will look at how companies implemented processes and leveraged technology to survive another turbulent tax season. The session will cover:

  • Best Practices Followed by High-Performing Businesses During Peak Season
  • Steps your business can take to proactively manage the growing complexity of tax season
  • Steps to adopting a more profitable consulting mindset and the technology that can help

Session 2: Planning for Success: Digital Transformation in Your Business: Noon EDT, June 14

Over the past two years, we have seen companies adapt in remarkable ways. But as the profession has embraced new tools, companies have been encouraged to look beyond, not just to the demands of today, but to the possibilities of tomorrow. In this session, we will explore important questions about how technology is changing strategic decisions within companies. We’ll be looking well beyond remote working capabilities to consider what the future holds for companies that adapt their processes around technology, including:

  • Align your processes and culture around the latest technologies
  • Use integration and data to solve staffing issues and respond to customer requests
  • Leverage emerging technologies like blockchain for faster, higher quality audits

Session 3: What does innovation mean for the industry and for your business? 1 p.m. EDT, June 14

After any period of great change, there is always a bullwhip effect, where people try to return to the previous norm. But with the tremendous changes and advances made in the past two years, companies looking to maintain the status quo rather than innovate will be left behind. Innovation should be part of every company’s culture, but how do you encourage innovation in an industry famous for SALY? This session will cover:

  • Why innovation should be part of your company culture
  • How other companies are successfully innovating and how companies can learn from them
  • Steps you and your business can take to become more innovative, today

Moderator Gail Perry is CPA and Editor-in-Chief of CPA Practice Advisor. She also speaks at numerous accounting events, trade shows and webinars. Gail is the author of over 30 books (including Mint.com for Dummies and QuickBooks 2014 on demand), and she maintains a small tax practice. She graduated from Indiana University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism, after which she studied accounting at Illinois State University, earned her CPA, and worked for Deloitte in the Chicago Tax Department. She taught accounting principles at the college level and served 10 years on staff at the Indiana CPA Society as a computer applications instructor. Gail was the publisher and editor of AccountingWEB before joining the CPA Practice Advisor crew.
