Kent State Geauga hosts online presentations in October

Kent State Geauga and Twinsburg Academic Center have unveiled several online programs that will take place in early October.

On October 14, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Dr. Sanhita Gupta, Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at Kent State Geauga and Twinsburg Academic Center, will lead a conversation about the coronavirus.

Before working at Kent State Geauga, she obtained her doctorate. in Molecular Virology from Case Western Reserve University, according to a press release. In addition, Gupta was employed as a researcher at the Louisiana State Public Health Laboratory.

Gupta is the campus resident virologist who aims to educate our community about the COVID-19 virus and its variants, how to stay safe, and how vaccines work. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and learn more about the scientific perspectives on COVID and its impact on their lives.

Then, on October 7 from noon to 1:15 pm, there will be a presentation on “Afro-Germans in the Weimar Republic”.

It will focus on the experiences of different groups of people of African descent – Africans, Afro-Germans, African-Europeans and African-Americans – who lived in Germany under Nazism, the statement said.

Then, on October 13 from noon to 1 pm, Californian artist and educator Judy Baca will present “Memorias de Nuestra Tierra: A Retrospective”.

Baca is a painter and muralist, community arts pioneer and college educator who has taught in the University of California system for more than 30 years, according to the release. As the founder of the first city of Los Angeles mural program in 1974, she was committed to creating sites of public memory within communities historically disenfranchised since 1976.
